RAIL ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT

In 2007, the Tunisian government launched a vast project to create and extend the Tunis rail network.
The aim of this program is to improve user mobility and provide a sustainable response to the growing travel needs of the Greater Tunis conurbation (3 million motorized journeys per day in 2002, compared with 5.8 million forecast for 2020).

The project includes the construction and commissioning of the first sections of the network’s first 2 high-speed lines (D and E), for a total length of 18.5 km from the center of Tunis (Gare de Barcelone).
The total coverage of the project is 5 lines with a length of 85 km, linking several districts of the Tunis District.

The RFR network will enable speeds of 35-40 km/h, compared with 18 km/h for the Tunis light rail system.
