The Haramain high-speed line
RAIL ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT
The Haramain high-speed line is Saudi Arabia’s first intercity high-speed line linking Mecca to Medina via Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City.
The Haramain Express train is scheduled to cover the new 450 km-long rail network in 2 h 52 min, reaching speeds of over 300 km/h.
The Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) awarded the contract to the Spanish-Saudi consortium Al-Shoula to equip and operate the high-speed line for 12 years.
