La Muela II hydroelectric power plant
ENERGY PRODUCTION PROJECT

The La Muela complex (La Muela I and La Muela II) is the largest hydroelectric pumped storage power plant in operation in Europe.
La Muela II is located on the right bank of the Júcar river in the municipality of Cortes de Pallás in Valencia (Spain).

The La Muela II extension has four reversible turbine groups with a total capacity of 712 MWh (pumping mode) or 852 MWh (generator mode).
The project uses the Júcar River as a lower reservoir and an artificial upper reservoir.

In total, La Muela I and La Muela II have a generating capacity of over 2,000 MWh.
Europe’s largest pumped-storage power plant was inaugurated in October 2013.
